Trump hopes Fed ended interest rate hikes

Mubasher: US President Donald Trump voiced his hope that the Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes had come to an end.

“Hopefully now we won’t do the tightening,” President Trump told Fox Business Network, as reported by Bloomberg News.

Trump’s remark came just two days after Fed policymakers scaled back their expected interest rate hikes from two to none this year and one in next.

The US central bank said it would halt the steady decline of its balance sheet in September.

Trump has repeatedly pushed to lobby Chairman Jerome Powell and Fed officials not to tighten monetary policy, arguing that this would threaten the economic growth.

The US president believes that he was “right” in his earlier warnings, doubting that they had “influenced” the Fed, according to Bloomberg.

“We have tremendous potential as a country […] our companies are doing phenomenally well,” Trump said, adding that the US is not “being treated properly by other countries.”
